Immigrants Make Fairfax Great: Immigrant Heritage and Environmental Tribute

June 11, 2024 the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors proclaimed June as Immigrant Heritage Month. This proclamation was the last of many recognitions in the county, recognizing Juneteenth, dedicating a day to Gun Violence Awareness, affirming the commitment to Pride in Fairfax County and much more.
Centreville Immigration Forum (CIF), along with over 20 other community organizations serving immigrants, led by Roopal Mehta Saran from the English Empowerment Center, spoke to the incredible contributions of this community in Fairfax County. Supervisor Dalia Palchik from Providence District and Supervisor Andres Jimenez from Mason district used some Spanish in their address along with words from Supervisor Walter Alcorn, Hunter Mill District, and Chairman Jeff McKay on the strength and importance of the immigrant community in Fairfax County.
Immigrants are small business owners, entrepreneurs, laborers and make up the backbone of our great county.
For the last six months, half a dozen members of the Centreville Labor Resource Center have been working on a residential property adjoining the Difficult Run section of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail. This homeowner and resident is taking initiative to beautify his own property and contribute to the environment that benefits all county residents.
This project has been restoring natural beauty with native plants, removing invasive plants and contributing to the longevity of the land. The woodland garden has caught the attention of many trekkers and others enjoying section 7 of the county trail.
Immigrant laborers have been leading this transformative project and utilizing their skills and energy to enrich the private and public land that makes Fairfax County a wonderful place to live.
Many Central and South American immigrants have a unique connection to the land and bring ancestral teachings and generational knowledge that benefit Fairfax County.
All residents can beautify, restore and take advantage of the sacred land we enjoy today. The Centreville Labor Resource Center is open Monday through Saturday from 6-11 am, plan your project today and model a healthy environment for generations to come.

Los Inmigrantes Hacen Grande a Fairfax: Herencia de los Inmigrantes y Tributo Ambiental
El 11 de junio de 2024, la Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Fairfax proclamó junio como el Mes de la Herencia de los Inmigrantes.
