Centreville Immigration Forum Serves Registered Members
Centreville Immigration Forum serves primarily Centreville and many surrounding western Fairfax County and Prince William county residents. Although the majority of members are immigrants, our membership is open for anyone who can benefit from our services. Anyone with barriers to employment can take advantage of our temporary employment placement services, English or skills training classes, tax or financial planning services, and community events and partnerships.
Centreville Immigration Forum (CIF) serves 98% immigrants, the remaining 2% are native born facing similar barriers to economic stability and can benefit from its programs. Immigrants represent 97% hispanic/latinx, and 68% of this group are indigenous of the Americas, who speak a Mayan dialect as their first language and generally learn Spanish as a second language; 30% have limited Spanish proficiency and literacy rates are similarly represented. This population often faces discrimination in their countries of origins and have unique perspectives and struggles that manifest in distinctive migration experiences.
Membership predominantly represents the day laboring community, only 5% of members are fully-employed. Historically single men made up the day laboring population, however in CIF’s 13 years of service families were established and gender equity was prioritized through our Women’s Empowerment Project; currently 23% of active members are women. Although the population is made up of many mixed status families, including some cases of family petitions, the majority of program members are asylum seekers.
Membership is $30/year, the membership is renewed annually where demographic, employment, and skills are updated.
