Fall Fundraiser
October 11, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Centreville Immigration Forum (CIF) has been a proud supporter of our global community since we began. We celebrate this commitment at our annual Celebrating our Global Community dinner, held in late September at the International Country Club, 13200 Lee Jackson Highway, Fairfax, VA. There are appetizers and drinks during the social hour (6:30-7:30), followed by a seated dinner. Approximately 115 elected officials, faith community leaders, non-profit executives and community members attended the 2017 dinner.
An important part of the dinner is in presenting awards to people who have provided leadership in the immigrant community. In 2017, we presented awards to:
Diana Katz: a founder of the Circle of Hope Foundation and Empowered Women International. She was the driving force behind NOVA Rides that provides transportation for the elderly, and has recently begun the Latino Engagement and Achievement Fund.
Kofi Dennis: A Master Teaching Artist with Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through Arts since 1998, Dennis has shared his skills in drumming and story-telling with children and adults of all ages.
Mukit Hossain (posthumous award): Mukit was a telecommunications executive in northern Virginia and after the September 11 attacks urged local Muslims to become more engaged in community service. He modeled this by working with Jewish and other faith groups on a variety of causes, including organizing food and clothing drives for the poor in the Herndon area, and using his organizing and analytical skills to speak out for day laborers. He provided wisdom and expertise for Centreville Immigration Forum during its beginning, before his sudden death in 2010.
Please look for information about our dinner in August each year. If you would like to nominate someone for an award, complete the nomination form and submit it to by July 15.
