Esther Ibáñez-Holtermann was born in Spain and grew up in Germany. She has been volunteering with CIF since its inception. Esther is currently a Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer at American University, where she has been teaching Spanish for over 20 years. She holds a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology.

Esther is passionate about improving the lives of immigrants and finds joy in the company of volunteers and fellow immigrants. She firmly believes in the importance of community service and understands that helping others can bring great fulfillment to one’s own life.
